Resting in Melun

After a few days outside of Lyon, I am now in Melun, a small town about 45 minutes away from Paris. I'm staying at my aunt and oncle's apartment, and they've been so incredibly kind and generous to me, I honestly don't know how on earth I'll pay them back!

For the past couple of days, I'll been trying to ease into this time zone, since my sleep pattern was still kind of whack. Yesterday I woke up earlier and didn't nap, and did the same today...so progress! Other than a trip to the supermarché, I haven't done much but watch movies with my cousins. It's comforting knowing that they are into similar fantasy/adventure stories like LOTR and Harry Potter as me! The movies are dubbed in French so I had to put on English subtitles. Kind of ironic watching an English-language movie dubbed in French WITH English subtitles, don't you think?

On Saturday I'm moving along in my journey, this time to the heart of Paris. The first couple of days will be with a family friend and the last of my Parisian stay will be with my cousin. Even though I've been to Paris a few times, it'll be really nice to see the city from a "local" perspective. I've seen basically all of the big attractions, so I'm excited to get the slice of Parisian life that I've dreamed about for quite some time.

I still need to update on my time in Spain, which should be soon...so stay tuned for that.

Bon soir from France!

I'm guilty (once again) of neglecting this blog. On Tuesday I left for Barcelona and didn't get any internet access until Saturday (eek!). Right now I'm at my aunt's house in the Lyonnais suburbs, just getting some rest for a couple of days before leaving for the Parisian suburbs tomorrow.

I created my Spain posts in MS Word documents sans internet, but I don't have all the photos I'd like to add to my posts. Like the dumb traveler that I am, I forgot to charge my camera and thus my battery died halfway through the day. Luckily, my aunt let me borrow her camera for the rest of the day, so I could continue taking photos. I should be able to upload photos from her camera tomorrow or Wednesday, so here's hoping that works out!

I have several relatives who live in the Lyon area, but the aunt I'm staying with lives around beautiful hills and horse stables. We took a stroll around the neighborhood yesterday evening, and apart from the erm...little bit of nature (i.e. dirt and bugs), it was lovely!
